Sunday 28th October 2007

I've spent a lovely day playing with mummy and daddy today. I was wrapped up warm in one of my snuggly snowsuits and went out for a walk in the nasty wet weather. It was my first experience of rain, but my wooly suit kept me warm and dry, and I was snuggled up to daddy in my sling. I also played in my new swing. You can see me playing in it in the picture. Mummy got it on the cheap from a lady who was advertising it for sale on a postcard in the supermarket! It's as good as new and was only £5. It's good fun and I like to swing on it. It's actually really a present for my new cousins, who aren't born yet, but I thought I'd better try it out for them to check that it's okay! I spent a lot more time playing with daddy today. It's lovely to see him at the weekend. He's always very tired from working so hard, but he always makes time to play with me. I was a bit confused by the clocks going back this morning, and demanded all my feeds early, but I'm back on track now. I had another lovely bath tonight before turning in for the night. I'll be up again in a bit for my late evening feed, and then fingers crossed I'll be able to sleep through until the morning!

Saturday 27th October 2007

I can't believe it's nearly the end of October. That means that I am going to be 5 months old in a couple of weeks. And that means that I could start having solid food any time after that. How exciting. I'm very jealous of my friends Oscar, Harry and Isobel, as they are all tucking in to yummy food on top of their milk. But I'm still having fun. I saw Grandpa and both my grannies this week, plus great aunty Caroline and cousin Kelia ( my 1st cousin once removed to be precise!). That was great fun, but quite tiring , as it meant I missed my lunchtime sleep. I was also weighed yesterday. I was disappointed not to have reached 12lb, but I'm only 1 ounce less. That's right - I weigh 11lb 15oz now. I'm more than 5 times my birth weight, if I've got my maths right. Something exciting happened today. I had a bath in the big grown up bath at the top of our house. I normally go into the big bathroom everyday with mummy and lie on the floor with my teddies, whilst she has her shower, but tonight I was allowed in the big bath myself. I splashed around and swam up and down the bath - with daddy's help, and played with my new bath toys that mummy bought for me. It was very exciting and I loved it. The little baby bath will now go back to Aunty Emma and Unlce Philip for their new babies. I'm very proud of myself, I didn't even have a bath until I was about 8 weeks old, so I'm very pleased to be in the big bath already. Sleeping through the night is also something I did for the first time this week. It was on Thursday night. I was very tired from spending the day with Granny and Grandpa Meikle and seeing my friend Nia (that's her playing on my swing in the picture below). And when Mummy put me to bed after my late evening feed at 11pm, I didn't get up again until 7am. Mummy was very pleased with me, and she told me I had to do it again the following night, but I just couldn't manage it, and needed some milk at 5am, so I need to try hard to stay asleep all night next week, so mummy and daddy aren't so tired. We've just booked 2 holidays, which is very exciting. We're off to Northumberland at the start of December, and I'll see some of my Great Aunties and Uncles, plus my other Great Granny too. Then we're going with Granny Judy to Centreparcs for a long weekend in January. Only in Wiltshire, which isn't too far from home, but it should be fun. Both places have swimming pools, so I'm looking forward to practising my backstroke. My friend Isobel is a good swimmer. She goes swimming with her mummy Jayne every week, so I'll need to ask her for some tips! A busy week for me next week. I've got Buggyfit on Monday, and then seeing lots more new friends later in the week. 3 new girls infact - Farrah, Lucy and Sophie. Plus all my NCT mates. I can't wait!

Wednesday 24th October 2007

My social diary has been somewhat turned on its head this week. Grandpa Meikle was ill yesterday, so couldn't come to see me, so he's coming tomorrow with Granny, and I'll see my new friend Sophie next week instead.Anyway I've still managed to see a couple of my pals. Harry and Isobel came to visit with Kathy and Jayne, who both had preeclampsia like mummy and were in hospital with her. Harry is the youngest of us, but he wasn't born early like me and Isobel, so he's a lot bigger than us. Harry and Isobel are both eating solid food, and teething. I'm not quite ready for solids yet. As I was very premature, I've got to wait until I'm 5-7 months old (uncorrected age - i.e. from 9th June). So as from 9th November, I could have a little something, like a bit of baby rice, or a bit of pear puree. But mummy and daddy will wait as long as they can before they give me anything solid, to make sure that my tummy is ready. So I'll carry on breastfeeding for the time being. Mummy has bought me a teething ring, as she suspects that I may be starting to feel a few teeth - I'm chewing my hand a lot and starting to dribble a little bit, so she may be right - we'll just have to wait and see....

Sunday 21st October 2007

I've been spending more time with my pals this week. I saw Oscar and Gene on Thursday. I'd missed my boyfriend Oscar so much , I hadn't seen him for 2 whole weeks. I'm not sure how we're going to keep our long distance relationship going, we'll just have to make sure our mummies meet up a lot, so that we can keep seeing each other. Anyway, we all had a grand time together, and our mummies ate a yummy lunch and gossipped a lot. Then on Friday I played hostess to Ava, Freddy and Christopher. Mummy and daddy have finally bought some batteries for my swing, so I've been having great fun playing on that over the last few days too. This weekend I've been spending quality time with daddy. I've been smiling and cuddling with him. I miss him alot when he's at work, so the weekend is a great opportunity to catch up on his news, and spend some quality daddy and daughter time. I was very well behaved and went to sleep whilst the rugby was on, so that daddy could watch it and not get disturbed by me! I love you daddy xxxx. This week I've got lots planned. I'll be seeing my friends Harry and Isobel; I've got a visit from Granny and Grandpa Meikle in Tuesday; On Thursday I'm meeting a new friend Sophie and her mummy Emma, who my mummy works with; and then on Friday I'm seeing Granny Judy with Great Aunty Caroline and cousin Kelia. What a busy week ahead I've got - I'd better get my head down for some sleep to get myself ready. In fact, talking of sleep, I've been sleeping very well for the past few nights. Mummy and daddy bought me a new teat for my bottle which means the milk come out quickly, so I don't have time to get cross that I'm being bottle fed! It means I take more milk at my 7pm feed, and so I sleep for longer in the night. On Friday night I slept from 11.30pm to 6.15am, so I was very proud of myself. What a clever girl I am - I bet I'm 12lb when I'm weighed this Friday -but we'll just have to wait and see.

Wednesday 17th October 2007

I've got a new toy to play with. It's a lovely jungle swing. I'ts supposed to swing by itself and play music, but mummy and daddy haven't got any batteries for it yet, so they have to swing it for me! Anyway - you can see me in my swing. I think I look rather sweet in it - I'm wearing one of the tops that my friend Poppy lent to me. I really like to look at the frog and toucan that hang down from the swing, they are bright and colourful and really hold my attention. They make me smile a lot. I've been doing more smiling recently, but I've been doing more crying too. I'm trying to tell mummy and daddy that I don't like being fed with a bottle in the evenings. Even though it gives mummy a break, it makes me cross, so I make sure I make my felings known. I wonder if mummy and daddy will relent and let me have a breast feed instead....Anyway at least I'm behaving with my sleeping. I slept from 11.30pm to 5.45am last night, which is the longest I've ever gone, so I feel very proud of myself. I wonder if I can do it again tonight....Tomorrow is a special day on 2 accounts. Firstly I'm seeing Oscar and Gene, who are bringing their mummies for lunch at our house. And also it's auntie Shellie's birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNTIE SHELLIE! I've sent her a special card, so I hope she gets it on time. Mummy says it might be late because of the silly postal strike. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it arrives tomorrow. Anyway I'm off to get my beauty sleep before I see Oscar tomorrow :-)

Monday 15th October 2007

Today I went with mummy and daddy for my outpatients check up at the John Radcliffe Hospital. I saw Hailey the Nursery Nurse, Dr Charlotte Bennett the Neonatal Consultant, and Michelle the Community Sister. The hospital scales weighed me at 11lb 4oz - which means I've put on 9oz in 3 days! I think perhaps they are a bit different to the one's at the doctor's surgery - even I can't put on that much! I am now 53cm long, and my head circumference is 40.8cm. That means that I've put on 4kg since I was born, and my head circumference is over 13cm more. What a big girl I am. Anyway, Dr Bennett was very pleased with my progress and my weight gain. So mummy and daddy were very happy. I'll see her again in a couple of months time to check I'm still on track.

Friday 12th October 2007

Mummy and I have been so busy, we haven't had time to update my diary for ages! Monday saw us buggyfitting again with Clare and Amelia. On Tuesday all my NCT pals came round for lunch. Then on Wednesday we went to see Godmother Becky's sister Anna and I met her son Felix too , who is 2. Then yesterday I played Miss Marple and went to investigate how my pal Ujjwal is getting on. He hasn't updated his blog for ages, so I wanted to see how he was doing. Well, you'll be pleased to know that he's just fine. He came home on his due date, 22nd September, and is enjoying life at home with his mummy and daddy and sister Jasmine as well as Granny who is visiting from India for a few months. Doesn't he look lovely in this picture with his mummy and granny. I don't want Oscar to get jealous though, Ujjwal is just a friend, not like my beau Oscar. Ujjwal's mummy made a cake aswell to welcome me to their home. Wasn't that nice? I met mummy's friend Charlotte from work last night, and then today mummy took me to be weighed before going to lunch with my mate Ava and her mummy Rebecca. I have gained another 9oz this week, so I am now 10lb 11oz. Not as big as Ava who is 11lb 9oz, but she is a little bit older than me based on my corrected age. Ava and I chilled out together on her play gym this afternoon - we've both discovered that chewing our hands is quite a nice thing to do! Tomorrow I'm meeting Callum and his parents Tim and Zoe. Mummy went to university with Tim. Then on Sunday I'll see both my grannies, so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be the first time that I've been to Granny Meikle's house, so that will be exciting.

Sunday 7th October 2007

I've been recovering from my immunisations over the weekend. They really made me feel horrible, and so I have been in a bit of a bad mood with mummy and daddy. Infact when mummy went out to London last night, I didn't behave myself very well for daddy, and didn't give him any peace whilst she was away. Aren't I naughty? Mummy was very good, and expressed milk for me in a car park in London to make sure I had enough! Today I have seen some new friends. Mel, Fiona and Simon came to see me. I saw Mel and Simon when I was in the High Dependency Unit at the hospital, but it was the first time I had met Fiona. We went to the pub for lunch, but I waited until we got home to have my milk with mummy. I was quiet and well behaved in the pub - I save my tantrums for mummy and daddy - it's only fair!

Friday 5th October 2007

Well, I had my trip to the baby clinic for my immunisations this morning. 3 horrid needles in my thighs. It was very unpleasant, but I was very brave and only cried a little bit. Because I'm only little the injections really hurt - I need more fat on my thighs, so that I don't feel the needles as much! I felt fine to start with after my injections, but this afternoon I started to feel rotten, and couldn't stop crying - I even lost my appetite, which is unprecedented. But mummy gave me some calpol and a long cuddle and now I'm having a good long sleep, and I'm sure that when I wake up I'll feel as good as new! My injections meant that I was feeling a bit out of sorts for my visit from Great Uncle David and Great Auntie Rosie today, but I did get lots of lovely cuddles from them, which made me feel a lot better. The good news is that I have broken the 10lb barrier! That's right - double figures now. I'm 10lb 2oz, so that means I put on another 12oz last week. I'll be out of my 'newborn' clothes in no time, and into the 0-3 month ones. As you can see I've been helping mummy with the washing recently. I ride in the washing basket up and down the stairs and encourage mummy to wash my nappies and clothes, so that I'm all clean and tidy. I think that I create rather a lot of washing for mummy, so it's important that I give her lots of encouragement to thank her for all her hard work!

Thursday 4th October 2007

I've had a lovely few days seeing friends and family. On Tuesday I saw my grandparents again - mummy's parents. And I also saw my friend Isobel. That's her in the photo below. I'm 4 days older than her, but really she should have been 5 weeks older than me! Isobel's mummy Jayne made us a yummy lunch, but I wasn't allowed any, as I'm still on a strict milk diet - not that I mind - I love milk! Yesterday I met some of mummy's work friends at Vodafone and saw Rosie the Community Nurse again. She measured my head circumference and it's now 39.2cm - a whole 12cm more than when I was born. Then today I met up with the boys - Oscar and Gene. Talk about hectic. Tomorrow will be a day of 2 halves. I'm not looking forward to the morning, as I've got my third set of immunisations - 3 injections in my thighs. But the afternoon will be lovely, as I get to meet Great Auntie Rosie and Great Uncle David - one of Grandpa Meikle's brothers. I actually have 3 Great Auntie Rosies - and this is the first one of them that I'll meet. I'll be weighed tomorrow again, I wonder how much weight I've put on this week. Mummy is hoping that if I put on a bit more weight, I'll be more likely to sleep through the night. But at the moment I like to have my milk a couple of times in the night, so I'm not planning on giving it up for a little while yet!
